Therapy is a journey of awareness. Healing Is An Inside Job.
Healing is an inside job. So is suffering. Everything heals from the inside out, and everything pains from the inside out. With pain there is also possibility. The possibility to heal an old and wounded pattern that was formed a long time ago. It lies dormant and in our subconscious ready to be activated in relationships when things don’t go the way we hoped it would. If we stop to look at events in our lives that upset us, interactions with others that brought up suffering, ways that we feel we were treated less than we feel we deserved, etc, and if we really look, we’ll see a pattern. Every event has a story, but that’s all it is, a story, a narrative that reflects exactly how we feel about ourselves anyway.
When we have an interaction with someone who treats us in a way that we’re not happy about, up comes the memory we’ve stored on a cellular level about our own worth in this world. We may feel rejected, dismissed, ignored, disappointed, less than, etc. each one of those responses is based on our perception and analysis of that interaction. We respond with hurt or anger. But what’s the feeling underneath? When we strip it all back we’ll find that we feel we’re not loved or that we’re unlovable. Flawed in some way. Not worthy. The interaction has reflected a feeling already inside us that we believe to be true about ourselves.
All we do in this world is relate with each other. Whether that’s with our families, spouse, children, friends, work colleagues etc, it’s in relating that we get to share ourselves deeply. Its also in our relationships that the deeper wounds in our psyche will reappear. Therapy can help greatly in unraveling the deeper dynamic that occurs within us when we relate with others in our world. Sometimes we enter into therapy when we’re in a crisis, but when we take the opportunity to look within ourselves, we begin to see that the crisis most likely arose because of the underlying silent messages we give ourselves on a daily basis. We begin to make the invisible visible, and through that awareness we grow our awareness.
In this life, pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional. Therapy is a journey. Awareness is the goal. No one wants pain, it’s uncomfortable to say the least, but within it lies great possibility. The possibility to heal from the hidden dynamic we’ve been carrying around for a very long time. It takes courage to heal, but it’s definitely easier than repeating the pattern again.
We do not have to be in a crisis situation to seek therapy, we just need to want support in finding better ways of relating with ourselves and others. Seeking therapy to unravel our hidden internal dynamic may stop a crisis from arising again. It good to talk.
