Counselling and Psychotherapy is a personal journey of self awareness.  It is very important to find the right person to help you to explore your life.  People who come for counselling are well people, who have hit a difficult period in their lives, and are looking for a safe supportive environment to explore their options and to find resolution to life’s difficulties.

Not all counselling has to explore past issues.  Sometimes people need to explore their present problems and find direction to move their lives on in a productive way.  Sometimes people may present with issues today that are repetitive in their lives, and exploring past traumas, or their roles in their family of origin etc, may be important to help free them from their present difficulties.  However, the key here is that it’s the clients journey, and ultimately the only expert on anyone’s life is themselves.

A counsellor/psychotherapist can help you to understand and make sense of what is going on in your life, as well as reflecting on past experiences and how they impact on the present.

Counselling aims at greater self-understanding, self awareness, heightened self-acceptance, improved relationships with others and greater control over your life. It helps you to clarify what you want from life, addressing your own needs, improving relationships with others, taking responsibility and regaining control. Learning to live, risk, love, hope and engage more fully with life.
